SAS Malaysia drives funding for children with speech disabilities

Dec 21, 2015During its year-end celebrations, business analytics company SAS Malaysia raised RM73,215 (US$17,073) to help children with speech disabilities in Cambodia.The funds were donated at a fundraising event recently held at Batai Village in Damansara Heights to Weh Yeoh, founder of OIC Cambodia, an organisation formed to help children in Cambodia with communication or swallowing disorders by providing them with speech therapy services.“Not many are aware that in Cambodia, more than 600,000 people have communication or swallowing disorders,” said Andrew Tan, managing director of SAS Malaysia.“Without the ability to speak, children with these disorders are not able to attend school or find a job when they grow up. We hope the funds raised will enable more children with this condition to get the help they need through speech therapy services provided by the OIC,” said Tan.A charity auction at the event saw guests bidding for auction items donated. These items included sculptures from the private collections of the Royal Family of Cambodia, paintings from Sembilan Art Residency Program’ artists, Nicholas Choong, Jael Estrella and Aliff Ahmad; photographs from Anna Bella Betts, one of Cambodia’s top photographers; as well as crates of fine wines consisting of Chateau Margaux 2009 by Robert Parker and Penfolds Grange 1996 and Glenfarclas 47 year old whiskey.First Published in MIS-Asia.
